EMDR Therapy
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy is an excellent choice for patients who are new to therapy or those who have a history of talk therapy and are ready to go deeper. EMDR therapy is different than traditional talk therapy, which only works with the rational part of the brain. EMDR therapy works with all the parts of the brain, including the parts that control emotion and survival, which allows for deeper processing and quicker, more reliable results.
Individual Talk Therapy
Sometimes traditional talk therapy is the best option based on current life stressors, coping skills, or personal preference. My style of talk therapy varies based on the patient and their individual needs and usually includes some combination of the following:
-
Processing through a problem to try to better understand patterns of thought, reaction, and emotion
-
Providing education on what happens in the nervous system when potential danger is sensed
-
Learning skills for regaining a sense of safety and connection after the nervous system reacts to a threat
-
Befriending your unhealed parts and learning ways to "reparent" their emotional wounds
EMDR Intensive Therapy
EMDR Intensives are prolonged periods of one-on-one trauma focused therapy that usually targets multiple memories in a day. Various options are offered for intensives and can range from a few hours of EMDR per week to several consecutive days where you are my only patient. As the name implies, this type of therapy is intense and is ideal for patients who are highly motivated to continue or jumpstart their healing process. Intensives are also a great option for individuals already engaged in talk therapy and due to their brief nature, usually don't require taking a break from your already established therapy.
